Food Packaging Design

When I started this project of designing original food packaging I had a very little experience in designing food packaging. I had an idea which was following on the theme of Healthy Breakfast Bar “Mighty Bee Bar” I felt that the idea can be expanded to a healthy food range.

Challenge
With a new product and little brand recognition, I needed a food packaging design that would stand out on retail shelves and immediately advertise it as a wholesome and delicious alternative to sugary snacks.

I liked the logo for it’s simplicity, there is sometihng quite cute I liked very much. The colour used very sampled from the photos used in the brochure.

You can see the original brochure below.

I like th brand NAKD in particular, mainly for the simplicity of their design.

Colours used also played an important role.

I wanted the shape of the honeycomb to be present at packaging including different sizes of the bee.

On the image above you can see I have applied the honeycomb symbol to all the examples present. For the Typography used I wanted something close to handwriting.

I have tried 3 different fonts including the typewriter type on shown on the image , but I much prefer the handywriting style.

I have used also symbols for the added flavour like on the case of an apple as demonstates the image on the left. The colour are very contrasty to each other to help the packaging to be more attractive to the consumer. I wanted th overall look to appeal as friendly and happy as possible. I also had to bear in mind which informations is the most important to the potential buyer. In this case I highlighted the name of the bar and that it is new and 100 % organic.

Healthy Snacks Project

Above I have mentioned I did this project to learn more about packaging design.

This is the first example I have created on my journey. The ideas is the same to create something attractive what would like to buy and eat afterwards.

First examples I have create were fruit in this case crisps.

Unfortunately it wasn’t that welcoming or exciting design I would have fished for. If I imagine myself int the role of the customer I feel that.

An effective packaging looks attractive, impresses with its creativity and is just nice to have on the shelf. Packaging design has the primary goal to attract customers’ attention. For this purpose, package designs can not simply inform the customers, but also provoke feelings and communicate emotions.

This led me to decision to change look of the packaging into something more attractive.

With the colour selection I worked out that red and yellow are the chief food colours, evoking the tastebuds and stimulating the appetite. …

Orange, a blend of red and yellow, naturally lends itself to food as another appetizing color. …

Green connotes eco-friendliness, healthy (think veggies) but be careful as green can be also unappetising. I tried to hold to this formula to help my range range to being more welcoming for my targeted audience.

I have mentioned earlier I wanted to create a range of healthy snacks. Some people do not eat crisps or don’t like vegetable or fruit crisps or don’t want to strain too far the usual taste for the potato crisps.

With the typeface used I wanted to stay within being quite traditional therefore I have chosen SS Nickson Seven type font because it felt it complement the vintage drawing back ground very well.

For this audience I have created a healthy snack bars range.

For the background I have used old fashioned illustration to create an interest for the customers. I wanted my new snack bar range to be friendly to my customers or maybe for their children.

Gift box for vegetable crackers.

I create this healthy snack tins as an ideal gift for somebody who is in the hospital for example.

Many people like to take a gift when visiting a sick friend or loved one who is in the hospital. However, the right gift can be difficult to find. To make things more difficult, some of the most common gifts given to hospitalised people are not always allowed in every area of the hospital. With these safely packaged crackers is should be safe.
